Title

MRI of the Bilateral Temporomandibular Joints Without Contrast

Clinical History

Patient-specific — populated from user input at report time. Shows "None" if not provided.

Comparison

No prior studies available for comparison.

Technique

Multiplanar high-resolution MRI of the temporomandibular joints was obtained with sagittal T1, sagittal T2, coronal T2, and axial T1 weighted images in closed mouth view, and sagittal T1 and sagittal T2 images in open mouth view, without contrast administration.

Findings

Multiplanar imaging of the bilateral temporomandibular joints demonstrates the findings detailed below.
Right TMJ - Articular Eminence: The articular eminence appears normal in shape and signal characteristics.
Right TMJ - Mandibular Condyle: The mandibular condyle appears normal in shape and signal characteristics.
Right TMJ - Condylar Position (Closed Mouth): On closed mouth views, the mandibular condyle is properly positioned within the condylar fossa.
Right TMJ - Meniscal Position (Closed Mouth): The mandibular meniscus is adequately positioned with respect to the mandibular condyle.
Right TMJ - Condylar Movement (Open Mouth): On open mouth views, the mandibular condyle slides appropriately underneath the articular eminence.
Right TMJ - Meniscal Position (Open Mouth): The mandibular meniscus is appropriately positioned with respect to the mandibular condyle during opening.
Right TMJ - Effusion: There is no significant interarticular effusion within the right temporomandibular joint.
Left TMJ - Articular Eminence: The articular eminence appears normal in shape and signal characteristics.
Left TMJ - Mandibular Condyle: The mandibular condyle appears normal in shape and signal characteristics.
Left TMJ - Condylar Position (Closed Mouth): On closed mouth views, the mandibular condyle is properly positioned within the condylar fossa.
Left TMJ - Meniscal Position (Closed Mouth): The mandibular meniscus is adequately positioned with respect to the mandibular condyle.
Left TMJ - Condylar Movement (Open Mouth): On open mouth views, the mandibular condyle slides appropriately underneath the articular eminence.
Left TMJ - Meniscal Position (Open Mouth): The mandibular meniscus is appropriately positioned with respect to the mandibular condyle during opening.
Left TMJ - Effusion: There is no significant interarticular effusion within the left temporomandibular joint.

Impression

Unremarkable examination of the bilateral temporomandibular joints.
